December 2021 Did Not Simply Erase the AccountantsWorld Name
IRIS Software Group’s acquisition of AccountantsWorld was announced at the end of 2021. The announcement positioned AccountantsWorld’s cloud accounting and payroll technology as part of IRIS’s expansion in North America.
Several years later, users can still encounter both names.
That is not necessarily a sign that a webpage is obsolete.
The AccountantsWorld website remains live and currently carries 2026 copyright information, product pages and support guidance.
At the same time, IRIS’s current company portfolio labels AccountantsWorld “Now IRIS Payroll.”
The result is a brand transition rather than a clean one-day replacement.
AccountantsWorld before IRIS
AccountantsWorld’s own current material says its cloud-software focus on accountants dates to 2000, while the company’s acquisition announcement describes the founders’ longer history of building technology for the accounting profession.
The company’s product philosophy emphasized technology that allowed accountants to retain ownership of their service relationships instead of competing directly with their software provider for small-business customers.
That philosophy produced products spanning client accounting, payroll, document management and practice operations.
Why IRIS wanted the platform
The acquisition announcement presented AccountantsWorld as complementary to IRIS’s existing North American accounting technology portfolio. IRIS had already been assembling products around practice management, document workflows and other CPA-firm systems, and the AccountantsWorld acquisition added a substantial cloud accounting/payroll platform.
IRIS continued expanding in the US afterward through other acquisitions, including myPay Solutions, Apex HCM and Swipeclock.
This provides useful context:
AccountantsWorld did not move into a company focused on one isolated payroll application.
It became one component of a larger US accounting, payroll and workforce-management strategy.
Why AccountantsWorld still appears online
Software-brand integration happens at several levels.
There is the corporate owner.
There is the commercial product family.
There are application URLs.
There is documentation.
There are existing customer relationships.
There are integrations and internal product names.
Those layers do not necessarily rebrand simultaneously.
That is exactly what current web research shows in this case.
IRIS’s company directory uses newer IRIS positioning while current AccountantsWorld pages continue to use familiar product names such as Accounting Power and Payroll Relief.
Support provides another clue
The current AccountantsWorld contact page tells existing customers to use support tools inside their applications and also publishes a support email on the irisglobal.com domain.
That small detail captures the present situation well:
the AccountantsWorld customer experience still exists, while the operating organization behind it is IRIS.
Does this mean every AccountantsWorld product is now called IRIS Payroll?
No such assumption should be made from the company-directory label alone.
The current AccountantsWorld website still separately presents Accounting Power, Payroll Relief, After-the-Fact Payroll, Cloud Cabinet, Practice Relief and Website Relief.
An independent publication should therefore use the name found in current documentation for the exact product being discussed.
What buyers should verify
A firm evaluating the technology today should distinguish between three questions:
What is the current product name?
Which organization contracts and supports it?
What future migration or branding path does IRIS communicate to buyers?
The third question is especially important during a brand transition and should be answered directly by IRIS for a specific purchase rather than inferred from an old webpage.
What existing users should do
Existing customers should follow the application and support instructions associated with their actual subscription.
They should not assume that every new IRIS page is a replacement login.
Likewise, they should not assume that a page carrying AccountantsWorld branding is unofficial merely because IRIS owns the business.
Check the domain, documentation and official support route.
What independent websites should do
This project should use:
AccountantsWorld
when describing the historical company and currently branded products.
Use:
IRIS Software Group
when describing the parent company and current corporate organization.
And be explicit about the relationship rather than trying to make the independent publication look like either party.
