Accounting Firms Run on Systems. We Explain the Systems Behind the Work.
Accounting software is often discussed as though every product is interchangeable.
One application keeps books. Another runs payroll. Another stores documents. Another sends invoices.
Inside a real accounting practice, however, those systems form a chain.
Client information enters somewhere. Staff members process it. Reports are created. Documents need to reach clients. Time and expenses become invoices. Payroll activity may create billing information or accounting entries. Owners need visibility into whether all of that work is profitable.
Practice Systems Journal is an independent publication about that chain.
Our first technology desk focuses on AccountantsWorld, a long-running provider of cloud software designed around professional accounting firms and now part of IRIS Software Group. AccountantsWorld’s current product site continues to list Accounting Power, Payroll Relief, After-the-Fact Payroll, Cloud Cabinet, Practice Relief, Website Relief and the Power Practice Suite.
We are not AccountantsWorld or IRIS.
We do not sell their software, operate their applications or provide AccountantsWorld credentials.
Our role is to explain how the pieces fit together.
Start with the ecosystem
If you encountered the name for the first time, begin with AccountantsWorld Explained.
The company has historically taken an unusual position in accounting technology: its products are designed around professional accountants who serve business clients rather than being built primarily for those clients and then exposing accountant access afterward. The company’s current homepage still describes this focus explicitly.
That philosophy affects how much of the suite works.
Accounting firms can retain professional control while deciding how much work clients perform themselves.
Accounting Power and CAS
For firms focused on bookkeeping, write-up, financial reporting and Client Accounting Services, our Accounting Power Guide examines the accounting side of the portfolio.
Current AccountantsWorld documentation describes Accounting Power as combining professional accounting functions with a general-ledger system. It includes trial-balance and financial-statement capabilities, bank-fed write-up workflows, A/R, A/P, job costing, inventory, bill-payment functions and tools for outsourced accounting and advisory work.
That makes it more useful to examine Accounting Power as a practice delivery system than merely another bookkeeping application.
Two different payroll problems
AccountantsWorld has both Payroll Relief and After-the-Fact Payroll.
They are not duplicate products.
Payroll Relief is built around processing live payroll for clients, including payroll calculations, payments, filing, employee services and multi-client administration.
After-the-Fact Payroll focuses on payroll compliance and reporting where payroll information can be entered or imported after the underlying payroll event.

Running the firm itself
Serving clients is only half of an accounting practice.
Somebody also has to understand:
- staff time;
- billable activity;
- invoices;
- collections;
- client profitability;
- overall firm performance.
AccountantsWorld’s Practice Relief product addresses that operational layer. Its current product documentation emphasizes invoicing, payments, realization analysis, staff productivity and practice-performance reporting.
Our Practice Relief guide looks at the product from the perspective of a firm owner asking a simple question:
Is the work we are doing actually producing the economics we expected?
Documents are another system
Accounting and payroll create a constant stream of files.
Financial statements.
Payroll reports.
Source documents.
Forms.
Client deliverables.
Cloud Cabinet provides the AccountantsWorld document-management and client-portal layer. Its current documentation describes integrations that can automatically place outputs from Accounting Power and payroll applications into a controlled document environment.
That means document management can be examined as part of the production workflow instead of an afterthought.
Why is there a website product?
Website Relief may initially look unrelated to accounting production.
Its purpose becomes clearer when the entire practice stack is considered.
AccountantsWorld currently positions Website Relief as a system through which accounting firms can create and maintain websites, publish firm information and resources, collect forms and use online content as part of client and prospect interaction.

One stack instead of isolated applications
The Power Practice Suite is where AccountantsWorld’s broader architecture becomes most visible.
Current product material groups Accounting Power, Cloud Cabinet, After-the-Fact Payroll, Practice Relief and Website Relief into one suite and describes integration among those applications and other AccountantsWorld products.
Our architecture guide follows information through that stack instead of simply repeating the vendor’s product menu.
And what about IRIS?
IRIS Software Group acquired AccountantsWorld in 2021. The AccountantsWorld site remains active, but current IRIS company information now labels AccountantsWorld as part of IRIS’s wider US accounting/payroll organization.

Independent means independent
Practice Systems Journal does not operate an AccountantsWorld sign-in page.
If we identify an official resource, it should be clearly labeled as an external third-party destination.
We never need your:
- AccountantsWorld password;
- client accounting credentials;
- payroll login;
- client tax data;
- banking information.
Our value should remain intact even if every outbound link disappears.
The objective is straightforward:
help accounting professionals understand the architecture behind the software they use or are considering.
